Sneijder to Make Galatasaray Decision

Article, English Football, European Football, Featured, Serie A, Transfer Rumours | Article posted on January 13th, 2013

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder appears to be on the verge of joining Turkish side Galatasaray, with the two clubs having agreed a fee thought to be in the region of eight million euros.

However, the former UEFA Midfielder of the Year has admitted that the decision regarding a move to Turkey is a tricky one, with the Turkish league considered a serious step down from Serie A.

There have been rumours that Liverpool will attempt to hijack the deal at the eleventh hour, and offer Sneijder the opportunity to play in the Premier League. Should the Merseyside club be able to meet Sneijder’s wage demands, this would to be an attractive option to move to one of the most famous clubs in world football, in arguably the most competitive league.

Sneijder’s stock has fallen considerably since he was rated the best midfielder in Europe, and was included in the World Cup team of the tournament after the Netherlands’ run to the final in 2010. Sneijder has appeared only occasionally for Inter Milan this season, and is currently considered surplus to requirements.

Galatasaray seem more willing to meet Sneijder’s personal terms, but the Dutch midfielder’s reluctance to rush into a decision regarding this move would seem to suggest that he is hoping a big club from one of Europe’s traditional powerhouse leagues comes in for him. Liverpool fans may quite fancy the prospect of Sneijder lining up in their midfield alongside Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva, but the Inter Milan playmaker’s injury record will come into the equation in any potential bid.
