Against All Odds: Milan Derby to be explosive

It’s the Milan Derby live on BT Sport 1 and Betfair Live Video at 19:45 tonight and Paul Robinson is predicting that goals will be in fashion.

AC Milan have had a poor campaign by their usual standards as although they’ve made it through to the knockout phase of the Champions League, they’re only 12th in Serie A after collecting just 19 points from their opening 16 fixtures.

That makes this match all the more important for Massimiliano Allegri’s men and while they come into the game on an eight match unbeaten streak in all competitions, only three of those were victories.

As far as the goals go, their last three in the league have all gone over 3.5 goals as they beat Catania 3-1 and then drew 2-2 with both Livorno and Roma. While this match is obviously being played at their home ground of the San Siro, it’s technically an away game for them and it is worth noting that six of their last seven away have also gone over 3.5 goals.

Inter Milan are doing better than their city rivals as they up in fifth with 28 points. They haven’t won any of their last four in Serie A though and a run of three draws was ended last time out as they were beaten 4-2 at Rafa Benitez’s Napoli.

Walter Mazzarri will be desperate for his team to get back to winning ways tonight and victory over Milan could possibly help springboard them to a title push, despite already trailing leaders Juventus by 15 points.

It’s the goal side of things we’re most interested in though and their last two outings have seen them flow as they both produced six goals. Four of their last six at the San Siro have gone over 2.5, with two of the last four going over 5.5.

I really think we could be in for a high-scoring derby here so with under 3.5 goals currently trading at around the 1.491/2 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
