Paul Robinson thinks there could be a giant-killing in store in France this evening as PSG travel to Brest in the Coupe de France.
Brest were relegated from the French top flight last season and they haven’t made a great start at returning. After 18 matches in Ligue Two, they are down in 15th place having picked up just 19 points. They are unbeaten in three in all competitions though and they have at least avoided defeat in six of their last nine.
Obviously this is a huge task for Alex Dupont’s side but they do have home advantage and would only need to be level at 90 minutes for this to be a winning selection. Last time they entertained tonight’s opponents on this ground they were beaten 3-0, but they were reduced to 10 men just after the half hour mark and PSG didn’t open the scoring until the 55th minute.
PSG are top of Ligue One and comfortably through to the last 16 of the Champions League. They have also progressed to the quarter-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue, so having to play in another competitions isn’t exactly favourable.
I fully expect Laurent Blanc to rest a few of his key players, despite the fact that their next fixture is against bottom of the table Ajaccio on Saturday. With both Monaco and Lille breathing down their necks, they can’t afford any slip ups in the league that will hand their rivals the momentum.
The Parisians will most likely run out the victors but their odds are very short and represent little value. I’m willing to take a chance on Brest getting a result, so with PSG trading around the 1.251/4 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
