Against All Odds: The Kids are alright for goals
“As far as the goals go, three of their last five have gone over 2.5, while on the road this season an overwhelming 10 of their dozen fixtures have followed suit.”
Lay Under 2.5 goals in Lille v Lyon @ 1.758/11
The race for the final remaining Champions League spot hots up in France tonight as Lille host Lyon and Paul Robinson thinks that those who tune in to BT Sport at 20:00 GMT will see plenty of goals…
Lille have slipped to fourth following a run of results that has seen them pick up just nine points from as many outings. They had been managing to hang on to the coattails of PSG and Monaco at the top earlier on in the campaign, but they’re now level on points with Saint-Etienne who are third, and just five points clear of today’s opponents who are sixth.
After keeping plenty of clean sheets in the first few months of the season, René Girard’s side have managed just one since early March and they conceded two last time out at strugglers Evian TG. While only four of their 12 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy this term have gone over 2.5 goals, two of those came in their four most recent outings there, and they also had a 3-3 draw in the Coupe de France a fortnight ago.
Lyon made a dreadful start to the season by their usual standards and it was somewhat surprising that manager Rémi Garde kept his job. They won only three of their opening 11 fixtures and bombed out of the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
Things have picked up since though for ‘The Kids’ as they are in with a decent shot of making it through to the last 16 of the Europa League, and just two defeats in 14 – five wins out of their last six – in Ligue One has them back in contention for the top three.
As far as the goals go, three of their last five have gone over 2.5, while on the road this season an overwhelming 10 of their dozen fixtures have followed suit. In fact, they’ve only failed to score themselves on two occasions, while they’ve kept just a single clean sheet at the other end.
When this pair met back in September it finished 0-0 but prior to that five out of seven had three goals or more and the two that missed out both finished 1-1. Lille’s matches are becoming more high-scoring of late and Lyon can usually be relied upon to both score and concede away from Stade de Gerland. Therefore with under 2.5 trading at around the 1.758/11 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
