Against All Odds: Where there's a Mill, there's a Holloway

Ian Holloway takes charge of his first game as boss of Millwall this afternoon and Paul Robinson thinks that will be enough to see them earn a positive result at Huddersfield…
Huddersfield are in 13th place in the Championship at present but it’s such a tight division that while they’re just five points adrift of the play-off places, they only have a four point cushion over Bolton who are 18th. A string of victories could see them pushing for promotion, but a few losses will see them in a relegation battle with the likes of Doncaster, Yeovil and Barnsley.
Mark Robins’ side come into this game on the back of an FA Cup victory over the non-league Grimsby but it was far from emphatic. With just five minutes to go they trailed by two goals to one before a pair of late strikes saved their blushes. Prior to that they were beaten by Burnley in the league and although they’re back on home soil today, it’s just two wins in five at the John Smith’s Stadium.
There isn’t much to recommend from Millwall’s recent statistics as they are without a victory in six – five of which were losses. The defeats have been relatively comprehensive as well as they lost by two or more on four occasions and they failed to score in three of them.
The angle to this bet though is the appointment of Ian Holloway. I’m not even his greatest fan but it’s hard to deny his passion and energy that will surely rub off, initially at least, on a bunch of players who have been underperforming this term. Scott McDonald and Steve Morrison aren’t donkeys, and under the new boss, they could start firing again which will take the pressure off the defenders.
Nobody likes to face a team who have just got a new manager and if this match was happening last weekend I wouldn’t be taking this view. However, with Holloway in the dugout for Millwall, I have to make Huddersfield my lay of the day.
