Arsenal v Borussia Dortmund – Champions League Preview
Introduction
One of the most attractive fixtures in the entire European season will be played out during the group stages, when Arsenal play a double header against Borussia Dortmund. Both of these teams are renowned for their passing games, which should make this a hugely entertaining game. Arsene Wenger has long been lauded for his record of qualifying for the Champions League in every season he has been at Arsenal, whereas Jurgen Klopp took Dortmund to the final of the competition last season. Thus, this match is also a clash between two of Europe’s absolute elite managers.
Winner
Arsenal have six points out of six in the group so far, and another home win here would virtually guarantee the Gunners a place in the last sixteen. Thus, Arsenal will be extremely keen to win here, as they have some extremely tough fixtures left in the group stages. In previous seasons, failing to finish top of their qualifying group has also cost them. Dortmund are obviously a formidable outfit, though, and very experienced in Europe, and I fancy them to nick a draw.

Both of these teams play a fairly open game, and have a wealth of attacking options. I’ve been very impressed with Dortmund so far this term in the Bundesliga, and they take a pretty similar approach to both home and away matches. Thus, I can see both teams scoring in this one, but I don’t think it’ll be too open a game as Arsenal have an excellent defensive record.

Both teams are capable of scoring this first goal in this match, but I’m going to go against the grain and tip Dortmund to score first, purely because of the number of options that they have at their disposal. I’m going to tip the attacking midfield player Henrikh Mkhitaryan to open the scoring in this fixture, as he has a great goalscoring record and is highly likely to start.
