Arsenal Rekindle Reputation with Ozil Signing
Arsene Wenger will probably go down as the greatest manager in the history of Arsenal FC. Certainly, his record and what he has overseen at the club is deserving of such a mantle. But Wenger’s halo had slipped slightly in the eyes of Arsenal fans after a long period of not winning a trophy, and pressure intensified on the Gunners’ manager after Arsenal lost their opening game of the season, and the perception was that he was dithering with regard to the club’s transfer policy.
It only takes one signing to change that. When Arsenal brought in Mesut Ozil, one of the best players on the planet, a player that even Arsenal’s rival Jose Mourinho described as the “best no. 10 in the world”, the whole perception of the club changed. At the very least, the signing of Ozil has bought Wenger some time, but it may also spring the Gunners right into the title shake-up, particularly as Manchester United are in a transitional period. This could be one of the great Premier League seasons.
