Arsenal v Stoke City – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Arsenal will attempt to build on their promising start to their Premier League season against an opponent who have been perennially difficult for them to deal with. The muscular approach of Stoke City has not won much favour in the football purist’s perspective of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, but the fact remains that they are a difficult team to beat who have made an excellent start to the season. Mark Hughes seems to have galvanised a squad that had gone a little stale under Tony Pulis, and there is no doubt that the Potters will be tricky opponents here. Arsenal will hope that their killer midfield, featuring the likes of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, will create the chances to see off the sturdy Stoke challenge.
Winner
Over the years, the Gunners have acquired themselves something of a reputation as being a team that don’t relish meeting strong, hard tackling teams such as Stoke. This has been garnered in particular from some of their performances against teams managed by Sam Allardyce, but the Potters have also troubled them on occasion. Nonetheless, this is now a very classy looking Arsenal line-up, who may harbour serious ambitions of launching a title challenge, and one would expect them to have too much for a Stoke side that looks pretty ordinary on paper. So I’m backing the Gunners to win this one, best odds available are 4/11 with numerous bookmakers.
Correct Score
Arsenal haven’t always looked the strongest at the back so far this season, and with Sagna having to play out of position at centre-back, they could be vulnerable to set-pieces in this fixture. Thus, I’m going to back Stoke to score at some point during this game, but Arsenal to win narrowly. My tip for the final score here is Arsenal 2 – 1 Stoke City. Best odds available are 9/1 with Ladbrokes.
Under / Over 2.5 Goals
In accordance with the previous tip, I am tipping the over 2.5 goals bet for this market. Best odds available are 3/4 with BetVictor.
Winning Margin
A one goal win for Arsenal can be backed at best odds of 11/4 with Ladbrokes.
First Goalscorer
As I’ve predicted that both teams will score in this one, it is necessary to consider goalscorers from both teams. However, I feel that Arsenal will take the lead on their home patch, so I’m going to tip a Gunner for this particular market. There are lots of potential scorers on the Gunners side of the field, but I’m going to go for Theo Walcott. The England winner could have had a hatful against Sunderland, and I think he will put things right here. Best odds available are 5/1 with Paddy Power.
