Arsenal Transfer Rampage
After a moderately disastrous start to Arsenal’s season, the pressure is on Arsene Wenger to spend some of the money that the club so publicly boasted about having available to him.
After the rehabilitating win over Fenerbache, Wenger indicated that he was about to do just that, with the Orange network’s news service quoting Wenger stating after this fixture that the transfer window is only just beginning now for Arsenal, and that there will be considerable activity between now and the close of the window on 2nd September.
The Guardian report that Arsenal’s move for Luis Suarez is dead in the water, so that is one avenue down which Wenger will not be traversing. Meanwhile, Sky Sports report that Juventus have issues a hands off warning with relation to Paul Pogba. But other targets are emerging.
Most notably, ESPN reports that Arsenal are eyeing a double swoop for the Real Madrid pair Angel di Maria and Karim Benzema. Wenger has long courted Benzema, and may hope that Gareth Bale’s proposed move to Real will lead to the Frenchman becoming available. It will be fascinating to see what the make-up of the Arsenal squad is come September.
