Barca aim to Restore Reuptation
Ever since Lionel Messi announced himself as this generation’s best player – and, indeed, possibly the single greatest player in football history – Barcelona have been regarded as the elite team in Europe. They have cemented this reputation by securing three Champions League crowns since Messi joined their first-team squad, and their performance in humbling Manchester United in the final of the Champions League was considered one of the most mesmeric in European football history.
Despite winning La Liga last season with a 100 point tally, though, their halo has slipped a little since then. Last season’s European campaign was far from convincing throughout, but no-one had expected Barcelona to take a thumping like the 7-0 aggregate thrashing that Bayern Munich dealt them.
Thus, Barca are currently only second favourites to win the Champions League, despite fielding the awesome strike duo of Messi and Neymar. This season they are not only playing to win a trophy, but to restore their hard earned reputation as Europe’s greatest club side.
