Bayern Refuse to Remove Cloak of Invincibility
The bookmakers are often right about any market that you care to name, and should that be the case for the Champions League this season, then Bayern Munich will achieve something that no other club ever has; they will become the first club to retain the European Cup trophy since UEFA started calling it the Champions League (that you have to finish in the top four in your league, having won potentially no trophies, in order to qualify…).
The walloping of Viktoria Plzen at the Allianz Arena showed a Bayern that are both mature and full of confidence, a team that believes it has no equals in European football. If bystanders were wondering what Pep Guardiola would bring to the club, then he seems to have instilled a little of Barcelona’ style of play without neutering the more steely and forceful Bayern approach. Europe beware.
