Bayern Look Set for Thiago Deal
With Pep Guardiola now officially at the helm, Bayern Munich have moved to strengthen what proved to be the best squad in Europe last season, as Guardiola looks to tie up a deal for his former Barcelona charge Thiago Alcantara for around £20 million in the next week or so.
Despite the fact that the midfield player has yet to establish himself as a regular at the Camp Nou, the 22 year-old has certainly been one of the most sought after players in Europe during the summer transfer window. Manchester United were hoping to add the Barca midfielder to their squad for this season, but increasingly it looks possible that Thiago will opt to ditch the Camp Nou in order to sign for the reigning European champions.
This could be seen as another piece of evidence proving the shifting balance of power between the two elite clubs, or it could simply be viewed as a young player lacking the patience to make a name for himself at Barcelona. Nonetheless, it is interesting that Bayern, who will be viewed as the strongest team in Europe as the new season kicks off, could be basing their midfield around two Spaniards who rarely feature in the Spanish national team.
