The reigning champions are in a slump, picking up only one win in their last five outings. Manager Tony Popovic has had to contend with injuries to key players all season and has rarely had the opportunity to show consistency in his selections.
This week Popovic will have to do without Polenz, Pojak and La Rocca who are all injured and to make matters worse top scorer Tomi Juric serves a suspension. More will be needed from forwards Bridge and Santalab who have not contributed enough so far. The key man for Wanderers on Sunday may be their flying winger Youssouf Hersi who will run at the Glory defence from the outset.
In contrast to the Wanderers’ troubles Perth Glory are in good form, new manager Kenny Lowe seems to have found a good balance to his team and a solidity to his defence, they’ve picked up two wins and a draw in their last three games recording clean sheets in all of them.
The Glory’s biggest weakness has been their away results but earlier this month they bucked the trend, beating Newcastle and grabbing their first away win of the season.
William Gallas may return this weekend after managing 45 minutes last week and other new faces may be on show. Lowe has been busy in the transfer market recently acquiring Roystn Griffiths and Nebojsa Marinkovic to boost the midfield and bringing in Lithuanian striker Davydas Sernas to add firepower.
With Sernas not yet ready for his A-League debut Perth’s fans will have to wait to see their new striker but lively Serbian attacking midfielder Marinkovic should start and give Perth added creativity. With the defence looking so strong and with the new signings adding more goal threat Perth are a team on the but at home in front of their passionate fans the Wanderers are a real force and have only suffered one defeat all season.
