Time to check in with the leaders in Portugal as Benfica host Maritimo at the Stadio de Luz.

They also lost in three cup finals, with so much potential for glory it ended up being the ultimate disappointment, this year they will be determined to avoid more heartbreak.

Benfica will be eager to gain their revenge on Maritimo after that loss but will first have to adjust to the absence of Nemanja Matic from their midfield after his big money move to Chelsea. With so many high profile coveted stars in his team Jesus must be worried about further bids for the likes of Garay and Gaitan, he’ll be looking forward to the end of January.
Maritimo come into this match after a string of disappointing result and without a victory in seven games. But their coach Pedro Martins will be hoping his team can take confidence from their win over Benfica in the reverse fixture.
The men from Madeira certainly carry a threat; up top Heldon and Derley have been in lethal form all season and will be a real danger on the counter attack.
However it’s unlikely Maritimo will be able to outscore Benfica and expect the hosts to cruise, the front line of Cardozo, Lima and Rodrigo will surely see Benfica through.
