Borussia Dortmund End of Season Review
A season that promised so much for Borussia Dortmund, ultimately fell apart for them two minutes from its conclusion. Having hauled themselves back into the Champions League final against their native rivals Bayern Munich, Arjen Robben's late winner condemned Jurgen Klopp's immensely talented Dortmund team to a trophyless season.
Having won the Bundesliga for the two previous seasons, this term Dortmund will well short of an awesome Bayern Munich team that ultimately deservedly was crowned the best team in Europe. Nonetheless, the quality of their team was acknowledged across Europe, as they eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League, effectively finishing off Jose Mourinho's tenure at Los Blancos.
The main concern for Dortmund followers in the summer will be that there could be a rather horrible deluge of talent exiting the club. With Mario Gotze having already played his last match for the club, and Robert Lewandowski wanted by all and sundry across Europe, Klopp has a tough job on to keep Dortmund competitive against their awesomely powerful rivals.
But Dortmund have lost players in the past, and still prospered. Dortmund championship winning teams were built on the midfield talents of Kagawa and Sahin, one now a Manchester United player, the other a fringe figure at Dortmund. Thus, though the summer may bring bad news on the transfer front, Dortmund fans will have faith that the enigmatic and charismatic Klopp will rebuild the team effectively whatever transpires.
