Brazil v Spain – Confederations Cup Final Match Preview and Betting Tip

Betting Tips | Article posted on June 28th, 2025

The Confederations Cup has ultimately been blessed with the final that many would have liked, including its organisers, and that seemed likely from day one. However, Spain were certainly tested during their semi-final against Italy, failing to break the Italians down, and thankful to their restored and resurgent goalkeeper Iker Casillas. It seemed in the aftermath of the game rather bizarre that Jose Mourinho had seen fit to demote Casillas to third-choice at Real Madrid last season. Surely a case of cutting of your nose to spite your face.

Certainly Spain can consider themselves somewhat fortunate to have reached this final against the host nation, but then again their penalty shoot-out performance was nothing short of exemplary. Nonetheless, after a rather insipid display against the Italians, Spain will have a few selection dilemmas ahead of this fixture.

Perhaps the most obvious one will be regarding Fernando Torres, who has once again cut a rather forlorn figure in the semi-final. It is such a stark contrast to the time when El Nino arrived in England, at which time he could barely stop scoring. Since joining Chelsea, however, the once dynamic striker appears to have lost a yard of pace, and more than a yard of confidence. Thus, Torres may find himself demoted and replaced by either David Villa or Roberto Soldado.

Elsewhere, the Spanish may recall Cesc Fabregas, who was benched for the semi-final. But, of course, Spain have a vast wealth of midfield options, and could field either David Silva or Juan Mata instead.

Brazil teams always have to cope with huge expectations, not merely to win, but also to play exciting attacking football. Thus, this tournament, in which they have scored at least two goals in every match, and Neymar has been a huge star, has restored national faith in their team. They are unlikely to be changed from their semi-final win over Uruguay, and will provide a stern test for the world champions.
