Bremen plus Hannover equals goals
Football bet of the week

Every week, bookmaker and former Racing Post chief sports betting writer Mark Worwood gives out his best football bet.

Some football matches have goals written all over them. The German Bundesliga game between Bremen and Hannover is most certainly one so bet on a goalfest in Friday’s fixture.
Remarkably for two teams in the bottom half of the German Bundesliga table, neither Bremen nor Hannover has featured in a goalless draw this term. Combined they have taken part in 37 different German Bundesliga matches and every game has had at least one goal, including their five-goal thriller in Hannover four months ago that the hosts won 3-2 courtesy of a 90th-minute Szabolcs Huszti strike. Little wonder then that bookmakers are inviting punters to almost write their own betting tickets about a 0-0 scoreline in Bremen.
The German Bundesliga total goals statistics of Bremen and Hannover are so incredible that they are worth listing. No Bremen match has produced fewer than two goals, with goals in its games totalling two five times, three five times, four three times and five six times for an average greater than three and a half. Only one Hannover match has produced fewer than two goals, with goals in its games totalling one once, two three times, three four times, four four times, five five times, six once and nine once for an average just a touch under four. Both sides offer terrific entertainment.
Bookmakers are doing their best to duck what must be one of the most statistically obvious bets of the European football season but even odds of around 4-7 are generous about Bremen and Hannover going over the 2.5-goal line. Of the 37 German Bundesliga matches in which Bremen and Hannover have played this term, 28 of them have gone over 2.5 goals, which is a percentage of 75.68. That equates to odds of around 1-3.
Another way to attack what promises to be an exciting game is the betting market that enables punters to bet on both teams to score. One can get odds of around 1-2 that both Bremen and Hannover rustle the onion bag in the match that kicks off the 20th round of German Bundesliga fixtures.
Both sides have scored in 15 of Bremen’s German Bundesliga games this season and 14 of Hannover’s matches. Counting their September 2025 meeting only once means 28 out of 37 and a percentage of 75.68 again. General offers of 1-2 mean that bookmakers rate it as just a 66.67 per cent chance.
Staying in the German Bundesliga, the game of the round sees Leverkusen entertain Dortmund. Bookmakers do not want to know about Leverkusen, quoting it at odds of around 12-5 even though it is one point and one place above Dortmund more than halfway through the championship program. Also, Leverkusen is the competition’s only unbeaten home team. Value-conscious punters will be all over Leverkusen on a range of markets, especially the double chance one.
The Africa Cup of Nations is about to go into its knockout phase and it is time to jump off the Cape Verde horse after backing it at ridiculous odds of 5-1 to make the last eight.
Ghana is a class or two above the three sides that the Blue Sharks encountered in Group A. The Black Stars have won each of their three games versus Cape Verde without conceding a goal, including a 1-0 win in Portugal two months ago. Invest your Group A profits on Ghana at odds of around 8-11 and consider opposing underpriced South Africa against Mali.
