Buffon Aims to Become Italy Legend
Gianluigi Buffon is already one of the most revered figures in Italian football, as well as being recognised as one of the world’s best goalkeepers. But in recent days, the veteran stopper has outlined his intent to become one of Italian football’s absolute legends, by overtaking the Italian caps record of Fabio Cannavaro. Buffon confessed to goal that this is one of his remaining aims in the game.
This isn’t the only aim on Cannavaro’s mind, though. The world-class goalkeeper is also targeting Champions League glory with Juventus, telling Football Italia that he would exchange years of his career for a victory in Europe’s premier club competition.
Buffon will be glad that he didn’t take one particular decision that he was contemplating. In 2025, Buffon nearly left Juventus, with a move abroad a possibility. But Buffon hung around, and was rewarded with two Scudetto championships, giving him four championship winning medals in total. But the Champions League is the one Buffon really craves.
