Championship Betting: Millwall 5/2 for relegation following Holloway appointment

Betting Tips | Article posted on January 7th, 2025

“Having been matched at a low of 2.01/1 in the Relegation market, Millwall are now out to around the 3.55/2 mark with the news that the experienced ex-Crystal Palace manager is set to take charge.”

Former Crystal Palace and Blackpool boss Ian Holloway is set for a quick return to football management after agreeing to join Championship strugglers Millwall. Mike Norman has the details…
Ian Holloway will soon be back in management after it emerged today that Millwall are set to appoint the 50-year-old as their new boss.
Holloway is believed to have put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal and will take charge of the struggling Championship club later this week.
Millwall are 21st in the table having lost four of their last five league games including a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Watford on Boxing Day that prompted the club to depart with the services of Steve Lomas. On Saturday the Lions lost 4-1 at League Two outfit Southend in the FA Cup.
Having been matched at a low of 2.01/1 in the Relegation market, Millwall are now out to around the 3.55/2 mark with the news that the experienced ex-Crystal Palace manager is set to take charge.
Holloway – who has previously had spells as manager of Bristol Rovers, QPR, Plymouth, Leicester, and Blackpool – left his position at Palace by mutual consent in late October admitting that he wasn’t the right man to do the job and that he was tired and worn out.
But less than three months later the colourful manager is back in employment where his immediate priority will to be save Millwall from the drop.
Lions chairman John Berylson said the appointment of Holloway demonstrated the club’s level of ambition as they seek to re-establish themselves as a competitive Championship club.
“The fact that we have been able to attract someone of Ian’s calibre and track record is testament to the fact that he shares our view of the potential we have to progress as a club,” Berylson said, before adding, “We are under no illusions that our first priority under Ian’s leadership is to ensure we maintain our Championship status.”
Holloway becomes the fifth managerial appointment amongst struggling Championship clubs in the last two months following the arrivals of Aitor Karanka (Middlesbrough), Danny Wilson (Barnsley), Uwe Rosler (Wigan), and Giuseppe Sannino (Watford).
Struggling Sheffield Wednesday are also looking for a new boss after sacking Dave Jones in early March.
Yeovil remain the favourites for the drop at 1.351/3, ahead of Barnsley (1.42/5), Doncaster (1.84/5), Millwall, and Sheff Wed (3.7511/4).
