Chelsea Step up PL Assault with van Ginkel Signing
Chelsea have indicated their intention to strengthen their midfield ahead of an assault on the Premier League title next season, by signing the highly-rated Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel. The 20 year-old is already a Dutch intenational, and was reckoned to be one of the best players in the Dutch league while with Vitesse Arnhem.
The Wikipedia page of van Ginkel confirms that the young midfield player was already considered to be resemble Frank Lampard in playing style. Now that he has signed for the Blues, the comparisons between the two will become heightened and van Ginkel will be viewed as very much a long-term replacement for Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer. This is a pretty high bar to set van Ginkel, and will be something that Jose Mourinho will undoubtedly play down.
Having already signed André Schürrle, Chelsea have indicated their intention to greatly strengthen their squad in order to really challenge for the Premier League title. It is likely that they will seek one further signing, namely a centre-forward before the season begins, which looks highly likely at this point in time to be the Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
