City Cavani Pursuit Underway
Manchester City have evidently decided to attempt to solve their striker problem by bringing in the Napoli centre-forward Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan forward has whacked in the goals for the Italian club, scoring 78 league goals in the last three seasons. This has made Cavani one of the most sought after forwards in world football, and it is evident that City have made him their number one target.
With media reporting that City have launched a £50 million plus bid for Cavani, which involves the Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, it is clear that City mean business in their pursuit of the Uruguayan. With indications coming from inside Eastlands that the technical staff involved with the club want City to switch to a 4-3-3 formation this season, the powerful and pacy Cavani would seem to be the ideal sort of figure to lead the line on his own. It may also be that the City squad may only need three forwards this season given the new formation, with Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero already instrumental parts of the City playing squad.
Certainly what is effectively a £50 million fee for a player with no Premier League experience is something of a gamble, but being flush with the new Premier League cash, City clearly feel able to pursue this target ruthlessly.
