Daily Dynamo Southampton v Chelsea – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Chelsea's 2025 begins with a tricky looking trip to St. Mary's to meet Southampton. The Saints' excellent start to the season has tailed off considerably in recent weeks, which was to be expected in all fairness, but they're still one of the better teams in the division outside of the exalted top eight who are battling for European football. It is perhaps appropriate then that Southampton are currently ninth in the table.
Southampton walloped Cardiff by three goals to nil in their previous fixture which ended an ignominious run of six Premier League games without a win. They are certainly a capable side, and and could cause an upset here. All three of Chelsea's defeats this season have come on the road, and if they show a vulnerability it is certainly when they are away from Stamford Bridge. Actually, having won three, drawn three and lost three away from home, their record is actually extremely moderate.
Saints, meanwhile, have won more than they've lost at home, and might fancy their chances of causing an upset against a Chelsea side that looks short of goals and has been grinding out 1-0 wins of late. Thus, with the draw looking reasonable priced for this match, I'm going to pick as my Daily Dynamo Selection that the two teams will end up level at the end of ninety minutes.
