Daily Dynamo Selection – Lazio v Inter Milan
The Serie A season gets back underway after its customary winter break with this fixture between two of the biggest names in Italian football. But neither Roman nor Milanese club is enjoying the most auspicious period in their history at the moment, as Lazio are confined to mid-table and Inter have little hope this term of launching a title challenge.
Inter haven't struggled for goals this season, with Rodrigo Palacio netting eleven times in the league already. It is perhaps their defence which has cost them, with Inter having conceded 14 more goals than second placed Roma. Lazio look well short of a team that could qualify for Europe, and have lost three of their previous four Serie A fixtures. The Biancocelesti were probably glad of the Christmas break.
Inter's form hasn't been that great either with only two wins in their last six Serie A fixtures, but they carry enough of a goal threat to suggest that they're more than capable of winning at the Stadio Olimpico, and Lazio can't really claim to have the same forward power at the moment. Miroslav Klose has looked well past his best this season, and the Roman side have struggled to replace the German's goals.
Thus, I feel an away win is likely here, with Inter already eleven points ahead of Lazio in the table and looking much the more accomplished side.
