Daily Dynamo Selection – Manchester City v Blackburn Rovers
Manchester City have established themselves as the odds on (with some bookmakers) favourites to win this year's Premier League title, but even the awesome strength in depth of their squad was tested by their FA Cup tie against Championship side Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion a weakened City side was unable to see off the relative minnows, and on Wednesday they face a replay which they could probably well do without considering the fixture congestion they will experience in the remainder of the season, should all go according to plan.
Nevertheless, City shouldn't have too many problems dealing with a Blackburn team who are having a decent season in the Championship, currently lying in eighth. This suggests that they will be capable opposition, but they are going into the lion's den to face a team that have won nine and drawn one of their last ten Premier League fixtures, and who still have an opportunity to pull off an unprecedented quadruple (although you feel that this will prove too demanding even for a club with City's resources).
Thus, it is impossible to predict anything other than a City victory, with the home side having won ten out of ten at home in the league, scoring 38 goals, and having recently put six past West Ham in the League Cup. Only the best team in the world have stood up to City on their home turf so far this term, and Blackburn may begin with a 'B', but that's where the similarities with Bayern Munich end, unfortunately.
