Daily Dynamo Selection – Real Sociedad v Villareal
This Copa del Rey clash between Real Sociedad and Villareal will be viewed as a critical one by both teams simply because the competition is their only remote hope of winning a trophy this season. With La Liga completely dominated the the triumvirate of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, every other club in Spain is pretty much an also ran, and the domestic cup competition offers them a little solace from the thankless task of attempting to compete with Spain's mega clubs.
These are two ambitious clubs, and both have enjoyed a good campaign in La Liga, retaining hopes of Champions League football next season. The clubs currently occupy the fifth and sixth position in La Liga, and both will harbour hopes of displacing Atletico Bilbao in the top four by the end of the season.
Sociedad, however, come into this fixture in much the better form of the two, having won their last four La Liga matches. Their season has been built on a prolific attack, in which the young French striker Antoine Griezmann has been particularly prolific, rattling in eleven goals in fifteen appearances.
Thus, the home side certainly appears to have the edge in terms of form, quality and goalscoring potential here, so my money is on a Real Sociedad victory. They are offered at reasonable odds, so that is my Daily Dynamo Selection for this fixture.
Selection: Real Sociedad win – 7/5 with Stan James
