Daily Dynamo Selection – Saint Etienne v Lille
Two of the teams hoping to secure Champions League football meet at the weekend in France, as the highlight of the French league programme sees third placed Lille travel to Saint Etienne, who are currently fourth.
Realistically, only one of these teams will make next season's Champions League at the most, as PSG and Monaco seems likely to finish first and second, as indeed they should given the amount of money they've spent on their squads. Having said that, Lille are now only two points behind Monaco, and may even be eying an unlikely title push.
Thus, this is a massive game for them in particular against a Saint Etienne side who have shown themselves to be more than capable this term. Lille's defensive record has been outstanding, though, with only ten goals conceded so far this season being a big part of their success.
Lille had a disappointing result last time out, though, losing at home to Stade de Reims, and they will want to bounce back from that quickly. Saint Etienne, meanwhile, are on a four game unbeaten streak in the French league, and with home advantage on their side are favoured as being slight favourites to win with the bookies.
This seems certain to be a tight affair, thus I think the draw offers the best value in the winner market. I don't expect this to be a high scoring game either.
