Daily Dynamo Selections – Arsenal v Newcastle
Arsenal's quest to qualify for the Champions League once again will look to be in an extremely strong position if they are able to overcome a floundering Newcastle side in this Monday Night Football encounter at the Emirates. Some Arsenal fans might reflect that this could have been a match of critical importance to the title race with regret, but overall one would have to conclude that it's been a fairly successful season for the Gunners, providing they see of Hull in the FA Cup final.
Newcastle had begun this campaign promisingly, but the loss of Yohann Cabaye in the January transfer window has created a huge hole in the Geordie's line-up which they are yet to satisfactorily fill. Motivation has seeped away as the season has gone on, and it has become increasingly clear that the club has very little to pay for this campaign.
Thus, looking at the stats for this one doesn't tell us too much. Certainly Arsenal appear superior in every department, but a much more significant element in this match will be the motivation of the two teams. Arsenal know a win will see them place one foot in next season's Champions League, while Newcastle already have one foot on the beach.
Given that Arsenal are much the better side anyway, there can surely be only one result in this one. My Daily Dynamo Selections indicate a comfortable home win.
