Daily Dynamo Selections – Athletico Madrid v Barcelona
This all-Spanish Champions League tie is very much in the balance after a 1-1 draw in the first-leg between these two rivals who are also battling for supremacy in La Liga. While Barcelona remain favourites, Athletico Madrid are something of a bogey team for them of late, and this is not a match that will be taken for granted by any stretch of the imagination.
Athletico are essentially a very solid and well drilled unit who fight for every goal and give very little away at the back. However, if they have a key player, it must surely be the brilliant forward Diego Costa, and they are likely to be without the newly capped Spanish international for this match. This must be a blow to their hopes in this second-leg; meanwhile the Barca talisman Lionel Messi has been rattling the goals in.
There is little doubt that Barcelona have declined a little from their peak performance of a few years ago. A few of their players don't have quite the legs that they used to, and Barca don't press the ball with quite the same relentlessness that they did under Pep Guardiola. This has given Athletico a chance in this tie, and for that matter the La Liga title race.
But being without Costa could just make the difference in this match. Barca picked up a sensational win away from home recently at the Bernabeu when they really needed it, and I think they'll win another entertaining game here.
Selections: Safe Bet – Over 2.5 goals (5/6 with Stan James), Value Bet – Athletico Madrid 1 – 2 Barcelona (17/2 with BetVictor)
