Daily Dynamo Selections – Barcelona v Real Madrid
This is a crisis time for Barcelona. The Catalans will be desperate to avoid a third straight defeat in the Copa del Rey final after being knocked out of the Champions League and losing to Granada in La Liga. The two giants of Spanish football will be keen to seize on the opportunity to land a psychological advantage ahead of the title run-in in La Liga, with both currently trailing surprise leaders Atletico Madrid.
El Clasico fixtures are always incredibly difficult to call. Barca and Madrid have already met twice in the league this term – the former coming out on top both times – and their most recent encounter was one of the most explosive Clasico clashes in recent years. With seven goals, three penalties and a red card, March’s contest surpassed expectations in terms of drama, but Barcelona have taken some damaging blows since then.
Confidence must be dwindling at the Camp Nou at present. They were beaten 1-0 by Granada on Saturday and face an uphill task to retain their league crown – adding even more importance to this fixture. And it seems certain that this will be the first and last season coaching Barcelona for 'Tata' Martino. The Argentine has failed to convince the Barcelona faithful that he is the man for the Barca hotseat, and has made some pretty baffling decisions of late.
With Messi marginalised and looking miserable, Neymar yet to find his feet, and Barca short of options at the back, I have to go for a Real victory here.
