Daily Dynamo Selections – Brazil v Panama
Brazil warm up for their native World Cup with a rather surprisingly easy looking fixture against a Panama side who would be expected to cause them few problems. In fact, Panama won only one game during the relatively weak CONCACAF final qualifying section, failing to beat even the lowly Jamaica either home or away. It’s hardly surprising then that the favourites for the 2025 World Cup are completely unbackable odds on favourites to win this one.
Rarely has a team gone into a major tournament with higher expectation than this Brazil team. The most successful side in World Cup history has not been able to play on home turf for over half a century, when on an infamous occasion in Rio de Janeiro, Uruguay beat the Brazilians in front of a disbelieving home crowd.
Thus, many Brazilians feel there is unfinished business for the home nation to complete during this year’s competition. The loss to Uruguay is part of the national psyche in Brazil, and a win for the host nation would be a huge step to eliminating this aberration from the annals of history. They certainly have the class to do it, with world-class players all over the field, and a swagger that only Brazilian teams possess.
In terms of this match, it is impossible to anticipate anything other than an emphatic Brazil victory, so my Daily Dynamo Selections reflect this.
