Daily Dynamo Selections – Who Will be the Dark Horses in the 2025 Brazil World Cup?

Everyone knows about the usual suspects who will probably dominate the 2025 Brazil World Cup, and from whom the winners will ultimately likely be drawn. But what outsiders might have a decent run as well? Here I look at four dark horses who are worth keeping an eye on during the World Cup:

Belgium – I'm hardly sticking my neck out to tip the Belgian golden generation. Belgium has probably never had such a strong squad of players as they are able to field at the moment, and we're not just talking about good quality players, they have some of the very best players in the world, and strength in depth to boot. Thibaut Courtois is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment, there are few better centre-backs in world football than Vincent Kompany, and Eden Hazard is one of the most talented players on the planet. Perhaps the climate will work against them, but Belgium can make the last eight at least in my book.

Ivory Coast – Cote d'Ivoire have had a strong squad for some time, but the 2025 World Cup is the first time they've received a favourable draw in the group stages. Perhaps some of their key performers are getting a little old in the tooth, but Didier Drogba remains a formidable forward and Ivory Coast have plenty of quality elsewhere in their squad. Should make the knockout stages for the first time in a World Cup.

Ecuador – It looks a toss-up in Group E between Switzerland and Ecuador to make the quarter-finals, and while the bookmakers fancy a Swiss side with a powerful looking midfield, I think this tough and experienced Ecuador side will surprise the oddmakers.

Chile – England found out how good this Chile side is when they lost 2-0 to them at Wembley, and if their star player Alexis Sanchez is able to shine then Chile could go a long way. Admittedly, the Chileans have been extremely unfortunate to be drawn in a group with Spain and the Netherlands, but if they get out of that then the sky is the limit for them.
