Daily Dynamo Selections – France v Norway
France continue their preparations for the World Cup with this friendly against Norway. The Norwegians won't be competing in Brazil, and this must be looked on as a winnable game for Les Bleus. However, after a slightly controversial selection for Brazil by Didier Deschamps, there will be pressure on the French to give a convincing display here.
After a period which can be reasonably described as a supreme one for French football, when the national team held both the World Cup and European Championships, recent years have been extremely lean by comparison. The French have been plagued by in-fighting at major tournaments; hence the non-selection of Samir Nasri, and we presume Gael Clichy, for Brazil 2025.
With or without Nasri, the French have a strong side, and should be too good for a Norway team which isn't as strong as some of their teams of the past. Brede Hangeland and Håvard Nordtveit give the Norwegians a decent defence, but they don't have the sort of quality in midfield and attack that they've boasted in the past, and certainly no-one of the ability level of their most famous player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Thus, I think France will win this one fairly handsomely, although it will be interesting to see whether they field their strongest side for this match. I think many may feature, as at some point their World Cup line-up will need some match practice, and this will result in a comfortable win.
