Daily Dynamo Selections – Germany v Poland
With the domestic seasons across Europe drawing to a close, attention now switches to the forthcoming World Cup in Brazil. Thus, teams across the world will be playing international friendlies in the coming weeks in preparation for this huge tournament.
It seems rather odd, though, that Germany should be playing this match against Poland, given that the German Cup final is taking place this week, meaning that all Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund players are ruled out. This will give the home side a chance to blood some fringe players as the German 23 for the finals is decided, but many familiar names will be missing, including Robert Lewandowski for the Poles.
This means that this friendly could be somewhat more unpredictable than would otherwise be expected. Germany will be one of the favourites for the World Cup, but shorn of virtually all of their star players, even Ozil and Podolski, who will be playing in the English Cup final for Arsenal at the weekend, means that this will be a scratch German side. Truly this fixture will test the depth of the Bundesliga.
But Poland will unquestionably miss their star man Lewandowski, and I still expect Germany to come out on top. This isn't a bad Polish side, but it is one that won't be going to Brazil, and that was with the Borussia Dortmund and soon to be Bayern hitman leading the line. I expect Germany to win and keep a clean sheet.
