Daily Dynamo Selections – Liverpool v Everton
This Merseyside derby will be considered even more important than usual for both teams given that Everton and Liverpool are both in with a more than reasonable chance of attaining Champions League football next season. This was a clear aim for the Reds at the start of the season, but Everton have certainly exceeded expectation thus far, and Roberto Martinez's first season in charge of the Toffees currently promises to be an exceptional one.
Thus, this should be a hard fought game, with both teams having denied lower league opponents even the sniff of an upset at the weekend. In the Premier League, Liverpool have recovered from two consecutive defeats against two of the division's top sides to remain in the top four, while Everton have lost only one of their last ten matches; a rather disappointing defeat to Sunderland.
Perhaps the biggest surprise about Everton's ascent this season has been their defensive solidity. Only Arsenal have conceded less goals in the Premier League. However, Liverpool have the phenomenally potent Luis Suarez up front, and have recently been able to welcome back his strike partner Daniel Sturridge, so there is plenty of goals in the Reds' line-up for this one; indeed, they have scored ten more than league leaders Arsenal.
Thus, I think this will be a pretty open game as though Everton have a good defensive record, they like to attack, so my Daily Dynamo Selections reflect this tendency of both sides.
