Daily Dynamo Selections – Manchester City v Chelsea
The Monday evening Premier League match between Manchester City and Chelsea is probably the biggest fixture of the Premier League season so far, and certainly the biggest game in Europe this week. Although Arsenal are currently top of the table, after they put Crystal Palace away on Sunday, City remain strong favourites to the title, and many sages and soothsayers believe that their opponents here will provide the biggest title challenge come May time.
Both teams have excellent form behind them coming onto this game. Chelsea are on an eight match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, while Manchester City have won eleven and drawn one of their last twelve Premier League games, winning the last eight on the bounce, and scoring 40 goals in this run into the bargain. City have already scored more EPL goals than they managed last season, and have outscored Chelsea by the small matter of 25.
However, Chelsea might view City's defence as slightly vulnerable. They have only kept two clean sheets in their eight game winning streak, and their Argentine Martin Demichelis has looked particularly ropey at times.
Thus, Chelsea will surely set up a blanket defence in this fixture and attempt to hit the City defence, which is somewhat lacking in pace, on the break in this one. Mourinho will know that if Chelsea try to play an open game that they are likely to go down in flames. It seems far more likely that he will attempt to frustrate the home side.
It's still tough to see their being less than 2.5 goals in this match, though, so my Daily Dynamo Selections reflect this.
