Daily Dynamo Selections – Manchester City v Wigan Athletic
It has already been a successful season for Manchester City, with the club being newly crowned League Cup winners in the last week. Thus, they have already shown their cup pedigree and ensured that they won't have to ensure another trophyless season, and despite the result of last year's FA Cup final, Wigan will certainly be up against it travelling to the Etihad for this sixth-round cup-tie.
However, the Latics' supporters will make the short trip to Manchester in good spirit. Wigan dispensed of manager Owen Coyle in March after three consecutive home defeats in the league, and their path back to the Premier League looked to be a long and winding road. However, new manager Uwe Rösler, himself a former City favourite, has reinstilled confidence in the club, and Wigan will travel to City on the back of four consecutive confidence boosting victories in the league, which has secured them a position in the play-off places.
Things are looking up for the Latics then, but they will naturally still start as overwhelming second favourites for this match against one of the strongest teams in Europe. Despite the disappointment of being beaten at home by Barcelona in the Champions League, City still have every chance of completing a domestic treble, and I don't expect Wigan to stand in their way this time, despite beating them in last season's cup final. Thus, my Daily Dynamo Selections reflect an emphatic City win.
