Daily Dynamo Selections – Mexico v Nigeria
In this week of international fixtures, this match-up between the traditionally strongest sides in Latin America and Africa is a particular standout.
Mexico don't have their greatest crop of players at the moment, but they have a decent draw for the group stages of the Brazilian tournament to look forward to, and they may be able to claim a last sixteen place. Similarly, the draw has been pretty kind to Nigeria, and they may fancy their chances of ensuring that there is at least one African participant in the knockout stages.
Thus, this fixture will be taken seriously by both sides as an opportunity to test their progress ahead of the world's biggest football tournament. In particular, it will be a good chance for Nigeria to test themselves against high quality opposition.
Mexico's recent results have been pretty decent, but they've only come up against the likes of New Zealand and South Korea. Although the CONCACAF side are at home, they might find that Nigeria are a step up in quality from that which they've become accustomed to recently. There are also some aging legs in the Mexican line-up that might find an athletic Nigerian side quite a handful.
Thus, looking at the odds for this fixture, I think the odds that the bookmakers are offering on a draw are pretty generous, so my first Daily Dynamo Selection is for the two teams to finish level. I think this could be a high scoring match as well.
