Daily Dynamo Selections – Seattle Sounders v FC Dallas
Even at this early stage of the MLS season, this match-up between the Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas can be viewed as a critical fixture. The home side has got off to an excellent start to the season, and currently top the Western Conference. However, Dallas are not too far behind the league leaders, and both teams look set to have a good chance of a play-off place come the end of the season.
Seattle certainly look to have a strong side for this level on paper, with former Inter Milan and Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins leading the line for them, and other top-class players such as Marcus Hahnemann and Clint Dempsey in their squad. They certainly outrank Dallas in big names, and it will be no surprise to any aficionado of European football that Seattle are top of the table at this stage of the season.
However, one thing that must be said in mitigation is that home advantage doesn't count for anywhere near as much in MLS as it does in European football. No team in the Western Conference has an outstanding home record and FC Dallas will undoubtedly go to Seattle with the intention of winning. But Seattle look a stronger outfit all over the field, and I think the result here will reflect the recent form of the two teams.
