Daily Dynamo Selections – World Cup Group A
Group A of the 2025 World Cup will gain a great deal of attention owing to the fact that it contains the host nation Brazil. Naturally much will be expected of the hosts, as they attempt to pick up their sixth World Cup title.
Such is the quality of the Brazil team that their qualification for the knockout stages is a virtual certainty. Thus, the question of which team will join them in the last sixteen is of the most importance in Group A.
The other two teams likely to fight it out for a last sixteen place in Group A are Mexico and Croatia. Both of these nations have had stronger teams than they're able to field at present, but that doesn't mean that they should be written off completely.
Mexico have previously been very reliant on the goals of Javier Hernandez, but despite Manchester United's disastrous season, Hernandez hasn't received much game time this term. Elsewhere, we have certainly seen stronger Mexican teams in the past, although they do have a more than decent defence, which will be built around Andrés Guardado; a centurion in cap terms at the age of just 27.
Croatia can call upon some absolute top quality players. Luka Modric runs Real Madrid's midfield, Mario Mandzukic typically leads the line for Bayern Munich, while the veteran Ivica Olic has been one of the Bundesliga's best players in 2025-14. Additionally, Croatia has a strong and experienced defence based around the likes of Darijo Srna, Verdan Corluka, Dejan Lovren and Josip Šimunić.
The fixture between Croatia and Mexico will be key in this group, but I fancy Croatia to join Brazil in the last sixteen.
