Dominant Dortmund Set Bundesliga Pace
Having walloped Hamburg 6-2 to retain their 100% record in this season’s Bundesliga campaign, Borussia Dortmund look supremely well placed and equipped to challenge Bayern Munich far more closely this season than many observers were predicting. It seemed that with Mario Gotze exiting the club for Bayern in the summer, and with Robert Lewandowski likely to follow him, that Dortmund would have their work cut out to even live with the European champions during this season.
The importance of Lewansdowski choosing to stay was underlined by the game against Hamburg, as the Polish striker was instrumental in the home side tearing apart the Hamburg defence time and time again. Lewandowski also netted twice to enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s very top strikers.
Whether Dortmund can keep up this early momentum or not remains to be seen, but their squad depth looks good enough to sustain both a domestic and European challenge this season.
