England v Chile – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Introduction
England enter this friendly with Chile at least being assured of their place in the 2025 World Cup in Brazil. This will be a blessed relief to them after a tricky qualifying campaign, and their sights can now be set on the tournament proper. England’s expectation in Brazil will not be all that high, but they will hope at least to get out of their group. This match will present an opportunity to blood some of the young and untried talent that may form part of their squad, before a grudge match against Germany.
Winner
Chile have their fair share of dangerous players, and many England fans will be keen to see Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez lining up at Wembley. However, England’s Wembley record is excellent, and this is reflected in their odds on price to win the game with virtually every bookmaker. I wouldn’t disagree with this verdict, England have seen off better teams than Chile on their home turf, and I have to back them to win this one.
My tip: England win
Best odds: 5/6 with Ladbrokes
Correct Score
These friendly internationals can often be damp squibs, particularly if the two managers insist on substituting virtually every player on the pitch. However, England have a phenomenal record in friendlies, particularly at home, and one wonders if the Chilean defence will be able to deal with the home side’s potentially muscular approach. I fancy England to win by two goals to nil.
My tip: 2-0 England
Best odds: 9/1 with BetVictor
Under / Over 2.5 Goals
My tip: Under 2.5 goals
Best odds: 9/10 with BetVictor
Winning Margin
My tip: England to win by 2 goals
Best odds: 9/2 with Paddy Power
First Goalscorer
I’m not considering any Chile player for this market despite the presence of the in-form Alexis Sanchez. This is a tricky market to call as England are likely to shake up their selection for this game, but I think they will select Steven Gerrard, so I’m going to tip him.
My tip: Steven Gerrard
