West Ham United v Chelsea – Match Preview and Betting Tips
Introduction
This East London derby between West Ham United and Chelsea will be as tough fought as ever as the Blues look to gain some ground on leaders Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. Last season, though, Chelsea were turned over at Upton Park, and they will certainly hope to improve on their display on that day. This is not exactly the most inspirational and attractive West Ham team that has ever been seen, indeed at times they’ve gone into games without a recognised striker, but at least they give their all in every game, as demanded by their combative manager Sam Allardyce.
Winner
Chelsea will certainly view this as a very winnable away game, and will settle for nothing left having taken only one point from their last two Premier League fixtures. Jose Mourinho hasn’t made it clear what his strongest Chelsea side is yet, but we will surely see it in this match, which could mean that Juan Mata will be warming the bench again. West Ham aren’t really a very good side in truth, though, and I fancy Chelsea to win this time round.
My tip: Chelsea win
Best odds: 8/13 with Bet365
Correct Score
Chelsea haven’t banged in goals right, left and centre this season, and West Ham have to play a pretty attritional style of play. Thus, I don’t think this will be a high-scoring fixture, but I think Chelsea will do enough to win comfortably.
My tip: West Ham United 0 – 2 Chelsea
Best odds: 15/2 with BetVictor
Under / Over 2.5 Goals
My tip: Under 2.5 goals
Best odds: 20/21 with Paddy Power
Winning Margin
My tip: Chelsea to win by 2 goals
Best odds: 4/1 with BetVictor
First Goalscorer
It’s always difficult to pick the first goalscorer for Chelsea, as Mourinho perpetually rotates his squad, so I’m backing an individual who starts virtually every game for the Blues.
My tip: Oscar
Best odds: 9/1 with Bet365
