Getafe v Barcelona – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Barcelona were left ruing their luck earlier this week when they were handed a draw against Manchester City in the Champions League. Of all the teams they could have landed, this was the one they would have wanted to avoid, so Barca will hope that their luck improves as they travel to Getafe for this important La Liga fixture.
Although Getafe are an absolute minnow next to the awesome playing squad and resources of Barcelona, they shouldn't be viewed as a team who will simply lie down and die against superior opposition. Getafe are currently eighth in La Liga, and there is little prospect that they'll lie down and die on their home turf.
There is also a general belief among the football fraternity that this Barcelona team has declined somewhat over the last couple of years; indeed, the Manchester City manager opined precisely this just this week. A Barcelona that is missing Lionel Messi is obviously going to be weakened, but the tiki-taka style which has characterised Barcelona's play over the last few seasons also seems to be in decline, perhaps partly due to the fact that one of its most important exponents, Xavi Hernandez, is getting a little old in the tooth.
Thus, this might be a much closer game than many are expecting, particularly as most teams now know how to play against Barca. Many teams have frustrated them over the last couple of years by simply sitting deep and frustrating them, and then hitting them rapidly on the break. This approach has been particularly successfully put into practice by Real Madrid, but other teams have managed it as well.
Therefore, given these factors I'm actually not expecting this to be a high scoring game, although I believe Barca will win. I'm tipping the under 2.5 goals bet.
