Hamburg Provide Bizarre Peace Offering to Fans
German club SV Hamburg have offered fans an unusual compensation for their recent embarrassing 9-2 thrashing at the hands of a largely reserves-based Bayern Munich team. The club will run a barbecue for supporters on 21st April, during which they will serve the German staples of beer and bratwurst to try to get supporters back onside.
This has been confirmed by the club website, and thus is not a belated April Fools’ joke. The club, though, have yet to confirm whether this will be an open event, or confined to those that attending the Allianz Arena.
Hamburg’s hammering at the hands of Bayern was especially humiliating owing to the fact that the Bundesliga’s leading club omitted many of their top players in order to rest them for the forthcoming Champions League tie with Juventus. In must have been particularly humbling for Hamburg that they allowed the almost forgotten ex-Chelsea striker Claudio Piazarro to score not once, not twice, not even a hat-trick, but four times. This despite the fact that he had not scored a single league goal prior to this during the 2025-13 campaign.
Arsenal previously refunded supporters when Manchester United hammered them 8-2 at Old Trafford, but previous offerings of beer and sausages have been difficult to locate.
