Is Ten Match Ban the End for Suarez?
Having rather disgracefully bitten Branislav Ivanovic during Liverpool’s recent Premier League game with Chelsea, Luis Suarez was always likely to face severe punishment. This was the second time that he’d been involved in an incident so controversial that the FA was bound to incur strong retribution, and the second time he’d bitten an opponent on the field of play.
The ten match ban imposed on Suarez does not seem excessive. Perhaps the Uruguayan can feel that his previous ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra, on the basis of what was pretty flimsy evidence, with Evra admitting that he’d abused Suarez first, was harsh or unjust. But this ban was fully warranted, and there is not one word of defence that Suarez can legitimately proffer.
With the Uruguayan forward now ruled out of the first six Premier League games of next season, there will definitely be a question mark hanging over his Liverpool future, with numerous top European clubs sure to be interested in a player that is probably the most gifted currently plying his trade in the Premier League. Until now, all signs and noises coming out of Anfield have been completely dismissive of this, stating that Suarez will stay on Merseyside. But it would not be a huge surprise to see him leave now, and, indeed, media speculation regarding where he will go has already begun.
