Juventus win Higuain Chase
Italian champions Juventus have pulled off what they will consider to be a conisderable coup by agreeing a deal to sign the Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain.
The Argentine international has been a regular in the Real starting line-up this season, and has also established himself in the Argentinian national side, scoring 19 goals for his country in 32 appearances.
It is odd that a player who has been entrusted to lead the Real line so often this season, and who has scored fourteen league goals, is to be jettisoned, but Real clearly have big plans for the transfer market this summer, having fallen well short in La Liga this season. With Karim Benzema also rumoured to be on his way out of the Bernabeu, the necessity to sign a major striker, possibly Radamel Falcao will come into focus rapidly.
Higuian is thought to still be a target for Arsenal, and it is possible that the Gunners may yet attempt to hijack a deal for the South American striker. But Arsene Wenger has rarely been willing to have the Gunners sucked into a bidding war, and the draw of signing for the pre-eminent club in Italy at the moment may be an irresistible urge for Higuain.
