Liverpool v Manchester City – Match Preview and Betting Tip
Liverpool's title credentials will be tested severely by this trip to Manchester City, a team whose home form has been simply outstanding this season. Brendan Rodgers has attempted to at least partially neutralise the pressure and weight of expectation on his club by stating that he doesn't really view them as realistic title contenders, but recent results and the form of Luis Suarez have lead some of the more optimistic Reds fans to believe that they really are in with a shot this term.
Having said that, Manchester City are most people's favourite for the title and have looked absolutely lethal on their home turf. Apart from one rather humbling experience versus Bayern Munich, City have not just beaten every team that has travelled to the Etihad this season, they have thrashed most of them. It is generally thought that if City can sort out their away form that they will triumph in this year's championship, and their 4-2 win away from home at Fulham in their previous fixture, while now flawless, suggested that they are on their way to doing this.
This game pits two of the most lethal attacks in the Premier League against one another, although Liverpool's pretty much completely revolves around Luis Suarez. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined, Suarez has really come into his own, and is currently playing as well as any player on the planet. Liverpool may take some solace from the fact that Sergio Aguero is injured, but the City squad is so strong that they still have plenty of attacking options without the brilliant Argentine.
To look for a value bet in this fixture, it's really necessary to look at the correct score or winning margin markets, especially as City are odds on to win, which I fancy them to do. I can't see the Liverpool defence keeping City quiet, and I feel Henderson and Allen will struggle to get a handle on midfield. With two high scoring teams it's tricky to predict the precise scoreline, so my ‘Daily Dynamo Selection’ for this fixture is for Manchester City to win by 2 goals.
