“Liverpool have made some bad defensive errors in recent weeks, and it’s worth noting that in their last ten league games, they have conceded 16 goals and kept just two clean sheets.”
Back Both Teams To Score at 2.0421/20

Liverpool and their in-form forwards hope to maintain their title challenge against Aston Villa, and the visitors may be set to see their star striker hit his stride…

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says last weekend’s extraordinary 5-3 victory at Stoke City shows his side have the mental strength to be considered as Premier League title contenders. The Reds are fourth, six points off top spot, and are trading at 10.09/1 in the Winner 2025/14 market.
Although Rodgers must be commended for his optimism, it seems unlikely Liverpool will be able to overhaul both Manchester City and Chelsea (I haven’t made my mind up about Arsenal), who have squads bristling with talent in all positions. A more realistic target is Champions League qualification, and Liverpool are priced at 1.645/8 in the Top 4 Finish market.
Liverpool’s improvement this term has been underpinned by their stellar home form. They have won nine of their ten Premier League games at Anfield (a loss to Southampton was their only failure), and they average 2.7 goals per game in front of their own fans. The return of Daniel Sturridge from injury has further boosted the Reds’ firepower, and he scored and set up a goal for Luis Suarez at the Britannia Stadium last week.
Sturridge has racked up ten goals and three assists in 13 Premier League games this term, while his strike partner Suarez has bagged a barely believable 22 goals and five assists in 16 appearances. As dynamic duos go, they’re up there with Adam West and Burt Ward (non-geeks might have to look that one up).
In the To Score market, Suarez is a prohibitive 1.4640/85, while Sturridge is trading at 1.8910/11. In the First Goalscorer market, Suarez is 3.55/2, while Sturridge is 5.04/1, which I think is a hefty price for a player who’s scored the first goal in four of his 13 league games.
If Stoke was a big test of Liverpool’s credentials, the visit of Aston Villa is also a stiff challenge. That might seem a strange statement, with Villa just five points above the dropzone after a run of one win in seven league games. However, Villa won 3-1 at Liverpool last season, and Opta tell us they have lost on just one of their last four trips to Anfield.
Villa are a much better team on the road than at Villa Park, as away games suit their natural counter-attacking style
