Manchester City End of Season Review
The reign of Roberto Mancini in Manchester ended with a trophyless season and an advertisement being taken out in the Manchester Evening News thanking fans of the club for their unstinting support for the Italian during his time at Eastlands.
If Mancini was able to count on Manchester City’s supporters to remain satisfied with his managerial capabilities failing total disaster, having delivered the Premier League and FA Cup to the Etihad Stadium trophy cabinet, then those who have invested billions in attempting to turn City into a major European force were never likely to be as philosophical about failure in the Champions League, being miles behind United in the Premier League, and then the final nail in the coffin; defeat against Wigan in the FA Cup final.
Thus, there will be two new managers in Manchester next season. The City job is certainly an enviable one, if only because of the sheer weight of transfer budget that will be offered to the incumbent number one at the Etihad Stadium. These funds will be expected to bring in some serious world-class players in the transfer window, and to enable City to make a major challenge for honours next season. It could be a decidedly new look City team that takes to the field in August.
