Manchester City Linked with Cavani Swoop
Manchester City have been linked with a move for Napoli’s Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, after Roberto Mancini named him as a player he admires in an interview with the Guardian.
Since signing for the Naples club in 2025 from Palermo, Cavani has become one of the most sought after forwards in European football, with an impressive goalscoring record of 93 goals in only 125 appearances for the Italian club.
Such an impressive scoring rate has brought attention from many of Europe’s richest and most powerful clubs, with the Uruguayan heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he would link up with his former team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi.
However, City have the monetary firepower to compete with any club, and are in need of a striker after the departure of Balotelli to AC Milan. With Mancini having stated in the Guardian interview that the club’s transfer policy needs to be shaken up in the summer, one can expect City to aggressively pursue some major transfer targets.
Also on the Blues’ radar could be the likes of Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid and Luis Suarez of Liverpool. It remains to be seen which of these will be City’s number one target, but a move for Cavani looks increasingly plausible.
